This small and nondescript gesture will not only build your child’s awareness about the environment but also go miles in teaching them about complicated concepts like landfills and sustainable living in a much simpler way.

What are “seed-embedded rakhis”?

It is a rakhi band made from organic cotton threads and is bejewelled with plant seeds. It is a motivating idea – tie the rakhi first and later instead of just throwing it away, use the seeds to grow beautiful saplings.

Each rakhi comes with an instruction card, the details about the seeds used and a beautiful story behind the inspiration of the design.

The paper card is also plantable. It is made from recycled paper and also embedded with organic seeds. Some of the plant seeds used are – basil, tomato, brinjal, palash, amaranthus, papaya, pigeon pea, rice, cotton, mustard etc

The rakhis are 100% chemical-free and organic. You can also use them to talk to children and today’s generation about the farming community and village hand-crafts which they are significantly disconnected from.

While our consumer market is filled with products made from artificial and genetically modified cotton, these rakhis are made from non-GMO, organic and ingenious cotton. It is then hand-spun into yarn over a charkha by a group of village women belonging the Gram Sewa Mandal (Wardha, Maharashtra).

They are dyed using natural extracts in Erode (Tamil Nadu) thus saving water bodies from being polluted by the chemical dyes.

So not only are these seed rakhis environmental friendly but also social and economy friendly by supporting women-based village incentives and local farmers.
